From paper to digital: the eFTI4ALL Project and EU logistics modernisation The efficiency of freight transport and logistics is vital for the growth and competitiveness of the EU economy, the functioning of the internal market and the social and economic cohesion of all its regions. Multiple IT solutions are currently being used throughout Europe for the exchange of freight transport information. The incompatibility of these solutions often leads drivers to prefer paper documents, a costly and time-consuming process.
The Regulation (EU)2020/1056 of 15 July 2020 on electronic freight transport information (the ‘eFTI Regulation’) aims to increase the efficiency of freight transport and logistics by replacing paper-based documentation with electronic data in transport modes. It establishes a legal framework for road, rail, maritime and air transport operators to share information with competent authorities on the transportation of goods within the European Union in an electronic format.
